Clifton International University was founded in 2009 by educators and innovators who recognized that the powers of science, technology, and education could be harnessed to promote economic growth and development. CIU is committed to developing and researching innovative supplemental and informal education programs that lead to high levels of academic achievement for all communities, disseminating model programs and promising practices to inform educational practice, and working with community leaders and legislators to develop new policies to improve education at the local, national and international level.

The academic programs of the University are organized, keeping in view the type of workforce needed in sympathy with the future economic, business and technological advancement of the target audience. The training to be imparted and the degrees to be awarded shall be governed by market forces and shall be demand-oriented. Accordingly, the academic programs of the University have been carefully designed after analyzing the business and technology needs likely to accompany the prospective economic growth of the target audience. A unique feature of some of the degrees to be offered by the University is the combination of technical training with business management, a concept that has gained ground at Harvard University, USA, and several entrepreneurial universities in the West.
